About This Project

Horsham and Worthing had very little infrastructure to support them but had a large number of visual artists working from home studios or in small artist-led spaces. To raise their profile, the Artists and Makers Festival created two trails of artists’ open houses, one across the seaside town and one across the rural district immediately to the north. This was complemented by pop up shops, work in cafes, and a programme of commissioned work including talks, exhibitions and performances by the likes of Bill Drummond, Andrew Collins and The Caravan Gallery, and a short play by a young Suzanne Heathcote.
